Trump's announcement that the United States would withdraw from the global accord drew ridicule from foreign leaders around the world and made the U.S. one of only three countries not signed up to the accord, the others being Nicaragua and Syria. The group is known as the "Climate Mayors", and now lists 247 signatories on its Medium post.
"The selfish act of the United States does not only have grave consequences for the global efforts to protect the environment, but poses great danger to other areas as well", a statement from the country's foreign ministry says.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of North Korea said that Trump's move and his overall "America First" foreign policy "is the height of egoism and moral vacuum seeking only their own well-being even at the cost of the entire planet". The United States is now among only three countries globally who have opted to not participate in the accord.
"In the USA, it is local and state governments, along with businesses, that are primarily responsible for the dramatic decrease in greenhouse gas emissions in recent years." the letter reads. "Climate change poses immediate and long-term threats to the State's economy, sustainability, security, and way of life".
Cambodia, a member of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change since 1995, endorsed the Paris deal.

Canada's pledge to be more independent on foreign policy, filling some of the void left by the USA, is likely to be tested by its willingness to put more money on the table for defence, foreign aid and global climate finance.
