Mr Tuanakota said he mistook the creature for a stranded boat.
As per Mashable, a local military command is keeping watch on the carcass, while residents have asked authorities to help remove the remains so it doesn't contaminate the surrounding area.
In another video, below, initially posted to the official Facebook page of the Indonesian Army, a man says of the mysterious creature, "A giant squid has washed ashore in the island of Seram, in Hulung village".
Now, the dead animal has become a bit of a local celebrity, as residents stop by to catch a glimpse of whatever it might be.

The gruesome remains of species being washed up to shore is far from a rare occurrence, even in England. In terms of size, both sperm whales and giant squids would seem to match, as both can reach similar lengths, though if the squid theory proves true it would be a particularly large specimen.
