The Election Commission (EC) has invited leaders of seven national parties and 48 recognised state parties to the meeting to be held at the Constitution Club on Friday.
An Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) delegation led by senior party leader Somnath Bharti on Thursday met Election Commission officials over the Electronic Voter Machine tampering matter. The issue has acquired added interest following the demonstration of EVM tampering on a dummy prototype of the actual machine on the floor of the Delhi Assembly by the AAP government on May 9.
Several parties, including AAP, BSP and Congress had blamed tampered machines for the victory of BJP in the recently-held Assembly polls. Responding to the court's query, Chidambaram said EVM is a machine and "one can make a machine while the other one can tamper with it". These opposition parties had also conveyed their concerns on the EVMs to President Pranab Mukherjee.
At tomorrow's EC meet, AAP will be represented by Bhardwaj, who claims expertise in the area in his capacity as an engineer, and two technical experts.
The CEC, however, did not give any date for the proposed challenge.
The political debate on EVM has put the credibility of the electoral process in the country and that of the Election Commission at stake. We request the EC to arrange a hackathon.
Things We Learned From WWE SmackDown In The UK (May 9)
Since this will be just a few days before Backlash , perhaps we could see the former United States Champion on the upcoming show. Finally, The Usos and Breezango (Tyler Breeze and Fandango) will go head-to-head for the SmackDown tag team championship.
He said the AAP is ready to demonstrate before the panel about how the EVMs could have tampered.
The Election Commission has thrown an open challenge to all the political parties to hack - on Sunday and Monday - the Electronic Voting Machines owned, maintained and secured by the poll panel. On that fateful day, a voter-verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) machine attached to an EVM there had shown the vote going the wrong way.
Though many parties welcomed the Election Commission's assurance on the use of VVPATs, but AAP was adamant on its demand of Hackathon. But some Commission officials said the challenge can not be termed as hackathon as no internet or remote access to the EVM was involved. Now the VVPAT will also be used in 2019 general elections.
"In addition to the EVM/VVPAT, the agenda will also cover making bribery in elections a cognisable offence, disqualification on framing of charges for the offences of bribery in elections and suggestions in VVPAT recount Rules", it had said in a statement last week.
During a special session of the Delhi Assembly, AAP legislator Saurabh Bharadwaj had sought to demonstrate the procedure for tampering with an EVM.
