If Harden wins the NBA MVP over Westbrook, it means that the voters would have valued Harden team's win-loss record compared to Westbrook team's performance this year. Then, he broke the Denver Nuggets' hearts.
Russell Westbrook capped his history-making 42nd triple-double of the season with a game-winning three-pointer on Sunday as his Oklahoma City Thunder knocked the Denver Nuggets out of National Basketball Association playoff contention.
The Rockets star is on a historic pace for points produced, scoring or assisting on 56.3 points per game, with the all-time single-season record set by Tiny Archibald in 1972-73 close by at 56.8.
Westbrook had 50 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists in breaking Robertson's record of 41 triple-doubles that had stood since the 1961-62 season.
That still left the Thunder trailing by 10, but Westbrook would have none of it.
The Cleveland Cavaliers suffered a stunning collapse, blowing a 26-point lead in the fourth quarter, as they were upset 126-125 by the Atlanta Hawks in overtime. He scored the team's final 13 points as Oklahoma City rallied from 10 down with three minutes left. After the game, Westbrook admitted he knew the pressure his teammates felt.
That eliminated the Nuggets from playoff contention. Portland will be the No. 8 seed when the postseason begins next week.

A triple-double is achieved when a player records double figures in three of either points, rebounds, assists, steals, or blocked shots - such achievements make you a bit of an all-rounder. He clinched a season-long triple-double average Friday night against the Phoenix Suns.
Kyrie Irving scored 45 points for Cleveland, and LeBron James had a triple-double with 32 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists before the four-time MVP fouled out.
Westbrook's triple-double chase has been one of the biggest story lines around the league this season.
Harden's Rockets sit at third in the Western Conference standings with 54 wins while Westbrook's Thunder are sixth with 46.
Westbrook has the better stats than Harden but the latter has led his team to the third-best record in the league.
Meanwhile, Robertson averaged 30.8 points, 12.5 rebounds and 11.4 assists per game. Robertson, however, believes Westbrook is the clear MVP and recently told USA TODAY Sports that Westbrook is "the triple-double king".
"It's unbelievable", Westbrook told Fox Sports about breaking the record and posting his 79th career triple-double. But the guard definitely feels like it should be a bigger factor than people are making it.
