A small tornado swirled across the National Mall and Tidal Basin during severe storms Thursday.
CEMA said there is the possibility for half-dollar sized hail and wind gusts of up to 60 miles per hour.
So far, 2017 has been a very active year for severe weather across the United States.
Thursday's tornado started near Highway 168 around 1:10 p.m., then raced northeast and north along a 4.7 mile path.
The tornado was the second to touch down in D.C. on Thursday.
"Destructive and long-track tornadoes will be possible, along with hail up to the size of baseballs, and damaging straight line winds", the weather service said. That number puts the Peach State in the lead for tornado reports, surpassing the usual leaders in the Great Plains.

The weather service confirmed that an EF1 tornado touched down in the Irvington area and an EF0 touched down in Chesapeake on Thursday.
Another EF-0 tornado was confirmed near Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in the District of Columbia. And due to strong gusty winds, blowing and drifting snow is possible.
A third round will develop this evening through 9 p.m.
Update 9:32 a.m.: A tornado watch is in effect for 33 counties across Alabama including Lee, Russell, Chambers, Macon and Tallapoosa counties until noon.
Savannah-Chatham County Public School System - dismiss at the regularly scheduled time, all after-school activities and athletic events canceled.
The Tornado Watch has been dropped for counties west of I-95, but still holding onto the threat of tornadoes around and east of I-95 until 11pm.
